Kraken experienced a temporary outage that disrupted website and mobile access along with API connections for spot and derivatives trading on October 30, 2026
Kraken resolved connectivity and order placement problems affecting its platform shortly after they emerged. The exchange’s official status page recorded the incident starting at 02:42 UTC and ending at 03:42 UTC. During this period, users encountered difficulties logging into the system, accessing markets, submitting buy or sell orders, and executing trades through automated tools.
The outage impacted multiple entry points for traders. Website and mobile applications became unavailable or slow for many users. Automated trading systems relying on REST, WebSocket, and FIX connections faced similar restrictions. Derivatives cross-exchange transfers also encountered issues. Kraken did not disclose the exact technical cause or provide a count of affected accounts or rejected orders.
Customers reported repeated error messages when attempting to buy cryptocurrency. Some users could not complete withdrawals or access account functions. One trader described operating in a restricted post-only mode where limit orders added liquidity but failed to execute against existing orders. Kraken Support acknowledged the reports and directed users to the status page for ongoing updates.
The exchange posted an interim update at 02:55 UTC confirming that investigation continued. A final notice at 03:42 UTC stated the incident had been resolved. Services returned to normal without any reported loss of customer funds.
This outage took place against a backdrop of heightened scrutiny on cryptocurrency exchanges. The Binance hack that exposed $6.3 billion in funds dominated headlines, prompting widespread caution. Kraken maintained that its operations remained unaffected by the earlier incident and operated normally at the time of its statement.
The exchange’s demand for trading services has continued to grow steadily. Its xStocks platform, which offers tokenized versions of traditional stocks, saw more than half of its volume occur outside conventional market hours. Kraken had expanded the platform to more than 1,000 listings in the preceding week, broadening access to equity-like assets for a global user base.
Users on social media contacted Kraken Support directly about the problems. One account holder named urmom.eth received repeated error messages while trying to purchase assets. Another trader questioned why withdrawals remained unavailable. Kraken responded in each case by confirming awareness of the issue and directing attention to the official incident page.
Separate claims circulated about potential exposure to the decentralized lending protocol Aave. One analyst suggested the figure exceeded $130 million, raising questions about liquidity pressure. Kraken had previously disclosed its DeFi Earn product, which uses independent risk managers and third-party vaults to allocate customer deposits. Cumulative USDC inflows into these vaults reached more than $350 million in a recent case study, though the exchange has not confirmed any direct impact from the October 30 events.
The current disruption followed scheduled maintenance on October 29. The exchange performed system upgrades to its spot website and API services at 08:01 UTC, warning users that access would be unavailable for approximately 15 minutes. Markets entered cancel-only and post-only modes during the upgrade window, which ended at 08:17 UTC. Derivatives maintenance occurred concurrently.
Kraken’s status notice did not attribute the October 30 outage to the prior day’s work. No additional operational details or customer impact statistics have been released by the exchange.
| Service Category | Affected Components |
|---|---|
| Website and Mobile | Primary access points for retail users |

Kraken has not published a separate assessment of withdrawal delays or any required follow-up processing for customer transactions. The exchange continues to monitor its infrastructure while maintaining normal operations in other areas.
