Coinbase Derivatives will halt futures and perpetual futures trading for nine hours on October 24 while users retain full account access
Coinbase has announced a planned maintenance window that will suspend trading in futures and perpetual futures contracts on its Derivatives platform. The outage is scheduled to begin at 5:00 a.m. Central Standard Time on Saturday, October 24, and is expected to last approximately nine hours. During this period, traders will be unable to place new orders or modify open positions, though account logins and other platform features will continue to operate normally.
The maintenance is described as routine and is intended to support infrastructure reliability on the regulated futures exchange operated by Coinbase. Trading for both standard futures and perpetual futures products available on Coinbase Financial Markets will be affected. Perpetual contracts, which track asset prices without an expiration date and incorporate funding rates, will be unavailable alongside traditional futures.
Coinbase Markets issued the notice on its official channels, specifying that the work starts at 5:00 a.m. CT and runs for the full nine hours. The end time is presented as an estimate, meaning any delay would extend the interruption. Users are encouraged to monitor the platform’s status page for updates once the window closes.
Derivatives users face a notable gap in activity because crypto markets remain active around the clock. Traders relying on leveraged positions or hedging strategies will need to manage risk through other channels during the outage. The announcement provides no indication of changes to spot trading, conversion services, or transfers, allowing spot market participants to continue normally.
Perpetual futures traders in particular should review positions and funding rates in advance. With weekend volatility possible, the inability to enter or adjust trades could lead to wider spreads or price gaps upon reopening. Coinbase has advised customers to plan accordingly and to check official channels for the latest status.
The platform’s status page will serve as the primary source for any adjustments. Traders are reminded to verify details directly with Coinbase support if they hold open positions or require margin adjustments before the window begins.
This maintenance announcement coincides with several other recent changes at Coinbase. The exchange has instructed holders of BLAST tokens to transfer assets ahead of the network’s shutdown on October 26. New listings such as Axis Robotics have been added, while assets including Pearl and Stable remain under review for potential inclusion on the roadmap.
Looking ahead, Coinbase plans to suspend trading in Neon EVM and Syndicate on November 16 at 2:00 p.m. ET, along with Balancer and Tensor on November 9, Stargate Finance and Vulcan Forged on November 6, all at the same 2:00 p.m. ET cutoff. These actions follow reviews of the asset base and reflect ongoing efforts to maintain platform quality.
On the derivatives side, Coinbase and Deribit introduced six new equity perpetual futures markets in October for assets including CRWV, ORCL, SOXS, DELL, PLTR, and SNXX. Additional perpetual contracts for PONS and CASHCAT were also launched, available to both retail and institutional users in select jurisdictions.
