The US Commerce Department is distributing key Bureau of Economic Analysis statistics through Chainlink oracles, giving onchain applications direct access to GDP, inflation and private demand figures
Chainlink has made six official US macroeconomic data feeds available on 10 public blockchain networks in partnership with the US Department of Commerce. The feeds draw on statistics produced by the Bureau of Economic Analysis and cover real gross domestic product, the Personal Consumption Expenditures Price Index and Real Final Sales to Private Domestic Purchasers.
Each of the three indicators is offered in two forms: the reported level and the quarter-over-quarter change expressed at an annualized rate. The arrangement allows smart contracts and decentralized applications to reference the same government figures released through conventional channels without requiring developers to input the data manually.
Real GDP measures the inflation-adjusted value of goods and services produced in the United States. One feed reports the level in billions of chained 2017 dollars; the second records the seasonally adjusted annualized percentage change from the prior quarter.
The PCE Price Index tracks changes in prices paid by US consumers. It is the measure preferred by the Federal Reserve when evaluating progress toward its inflation target. Chainlink supplies both the index level, with 2017 as the base year, and the corresponding annualized quarterly rate of change. The Bureau of Economic Analysis issues monthly PCE estimates within its Personal Income and Outlays report and also includes quarterly readings in the national accounts.
Real Final Sales to Private Domestic Purchasers captures inflation-adjusted spending by households and private businesses. It excludes government outlays, exports and inventory adjustments, providing a focused view of private domestic demand. Its two feeds follow the same level-and-change structure used for GDP.
Updates occur monthly or quarterly in accordance with the Bureau of Economic Analysis publication calendar. Onchain users therefore receive the figures at the same time they become available through official government releases.
The feeds are initially live on Ethereum, Arbitrum, Avalanche, Base, Botanix, Linea, Mantle, Optimism, Sonic and ZKsync. Additional networks can be added if demand warrants.
Chainlink functions as an oracle network that bridges external information to blockchains. Smart contracts cannot independently retrieve government statistics, so the oracle delivers the data in a format applications can read and act upon. The company’s feed infrastructure holds ISO 27001 certification and a SOC 2 Type 1 attestation covering its security and operational controls.
Direct access to the Bureau of Economic Analysis figures can support a range of automated products. Possible applications include inflation-linked digital assets that reference the PCE index, prediction markets that settle on official GDP growth rates, perpetual futures contracts and risk models that adjust parameters after new private-demand data appear.
Lending protocols and dashboards could also incorporate the releases. Chainlink has identified these categories as potential uses rather than products already deployed under the current arrangement. The feeds themselves do not accelerate the release of economic statistics beyond the government’s normal schedule.
The Chainlink feeds form part of a wider Commerce Department effort to place economic information on public blockchains. In August 2025 the department, working with both Chainlink and Pyth Network, first announced selected Bureau of Economic Analysis data would move onchain. A separate release at that time published second-quarter US GDP figures, including a 3.3 percent annualized growth rate and a cryptographic hash of the full report, across nine networks that included Bitcoin, Ethereum and Solana. Coinbase, Gemini and Kraken assisted in distribution of that material.
Publishing a cryptographic hash differs from maintaining live oracle feeds. A hash enables verification that a document remains unaltered, while a data feed places specific numeric values in a form smart contracts can reference during automated transactions.
Separately, Chainlink has expanded its data services to support tokenized equities. Price feeds for Coinbase-issued versions of Nvidia, Apple, Meta and Alphabet shares on Base allow decentralized lending applications to calculate collateral values, borrowing limits and liquidation thresholds. Those tokenized products remain limited to eligible non-US investors.
The latest economic data feeds extend the range of official government statistics available to blockchain applications through Chainlink’s oracle network.
