Taurus Connects Tokenization Platforms to Swift Blockchain Ledger for Bank Tokenized Deposits

Digital asset firm Taurus has linked its custody and tokenization systems to Swift’s shared ledger, enabling institutional clients to process cross-border payments with bank-issued tokenized deposits on a near-continuous basis

Digital asset infrastructure provider Taurus has integrated its tokenization and custody platforms with Swift’s blockchain-based shared ledger. The move allows financial institutions to use bank-issued tokenized deposits for cross-border payments through existing digital asset systems.

Taurus announced the connection on Wednesday. Clients can link their current infrastructure to the ledger, with the first institutional integrations expected to become active within days. Initial distributed ledger technology transactions facilitated through the platforms are anticipated within weeks.

How the Integration Works

The arrangement connects Swift smart contracts to Taurus-CAPITAL and Taurus-PROTECT on clients’ permissioned blockchain setups. Taurus-PROTECT supplies programmable wallet and key-management features, including governance rules, approval workflows and API automation. Taurus-CAPITAL manages the issuance and administration of bank-issued tokenized money while keeping deposits on the issuing bank’s balance sheet.

Banks without their own blockchain systems can use managed Hyperledger Besu infrastructure and Ethereum Virtual Machine connectivity provided by Taurus. Institutions already running Besu or another compatible system can connect Taurus tools directly to their existing nodes. Existing Taurus clients can extend production infrastructure for ledger access in a short timeframe.

Financial institutions need digital asset infrastructure that can work securely with systems they already operate. The Swift connectivity allows banks to extend their digital asset capabilities into tokenized deposits and cross-border payments while retaining control over their infrastructure.

Swift Ledger Background and Early Transactions

Swift declared the ledger ready for initial use in July. At that stage, 17 banks spanning six continents prepared to pilot live transactions with tokenized deposits. Participants included HSBC, Citi, BNP Paribas, UBS, ANZ, DBS and Standard Chartered. More than 40 financial institutions contributed to the system’s design. Swift’s broader network links more than 11,500 institutions and companies across over 200 markets.

Standard Chartered and HSBC have already completed the ledger’s first live cross-border transaction, linking their separate tokenized deposit systems. The shared ledger functions as an orchestration layer. It coordinates transfers of tokenized deposits between institutions before final settlement occurs through established channels, including real-time gross settlement systems. Tokenized deposits stay on each bank’s own ledger and remain under existing banking regulatory frameworks.

Payments can proceed overnight and on weekends, expanding availability beyond the limited overlapping business hours of conventional cross-border transfers. Participating banks do not need to replace current settlement arrangements to use the blockchain coordination layer.

Taurus Institutional Reach

Taurus already serves institutional clients that include State Street, Deutsche Bank, Santander and CACEIS. Deutsche Bank participated in a $65 million funding round for the company and continues collaboration on institutional crypto custody. The firm expanded into the United States market with a New York office opened in October 2025 and has extended its platforms to multiple blockchain environments, including Solana for programmable tokenized assets.

The new Swift connection adds cross-border tokenized deposit capabilities to Taurus’s existing stack of custody, tokenization, blockchain connectivity and staking services. Banks gain three practical paths to the ledger: a fully managed Besu service from Taurus, direct linkage of their own compatible nodes, or extension of systems already running Taurus-PROTECT.
