Eligible investors can now contribute digital assets directly for shares in 10 Grayscale products covering Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, XRP and others, with approximate minimums from $80,300 to $364,800
Grayscale has expanded access to in-kind subscriptions for 10 of its digital asset investment products, allowing qualified investors to exchange holdings of supported cryptocurrencies for fund shares without first converting those assets into cash. The change, announced on October 21, 2026, applies to products tied to Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, XRP, Dogecoin, Avalanche, Chainlink, Hyperliquid, Sui and Zcash.
Under the arrangement, investors contribute the underlying digital assets through an authorized participant or approved intermediary and receive corresponding shares. This structure aims to lower certain transaction costs associated with cash conversions and reduce the practical demands of self-custody while maintaining market exposure through traditional investment vehicles.
In-kind subscriptions take place in the primary market. Eligible participants deliver the relevant cryptocurrency to create shares rather than using cash. Once issued, the shares can potentially be held in brokerage accounts, retirement accounts or used in margin, collateral and options arrangements, subject to product terms and account rules.
Grayscale noted that the approach can ease portfolio management and institutional custody needs. Steve Vanourny, Grayscale’s Head of Index, stated that institutional custody is increasingly valuable. He also observed that as digital assets mature, investors are seeking more secure and efficient ways to manage their crypto holdings, with possible applications in estate planning and collateral arrangements.
The expansion follows a July 2025 Securities and Exchange Commission decision that permitted authorized participants to create and redeem shares of certain crypto exchange-traded products using the underlying assets rather than cash alone. That regulatory step has supported broader adoption of in-kind mechanisms in the U.S. market.
Approximate minimum contributions, calculated using market prices from October 20, 2026, vary by product and will fluctuate with asset prices. The lowest threshold applies to the Solana Staking ETF, while the Bitcoin Mini Trust ETF carries the highest.

Product availability, facilitator fees and other terms apply. Grayscale has not publicly detailed the full list of qualifying intermediaries.
Contributing crypto may trigger a taxable event depending on individual circumstances and tax rules. Transfers can involve execution delays or price slippage. Fund shares may trade at a premium or discount to the net asset value of the underlying holdings.
Although some product names include the term ETF, the vehicles are exchange-traded products that are not registered as investment companies under the Investment Company Act of 1940. As a result, they do not carry the same regulatory requirements or investor protections that apply to registered funds.
Custody of the contributed assets shifts to institutional arrangements, removing direct wallet management while leaving investors exposed to the price movements of the underlying cryptocurrencies and to counterparty risks associated with third-party custodians.
The program is positioned for investors already holding substantial positions in the supported assets who wish to incorporate those holdings into conventional portfolio structures. Minimum contribution sizes place the option beyond the reach of most retail participants.
