The partnership targets South Korea’s $68 billion digital asset market, focusing on won-backed stablecoins, cross-chain infrastructure, and technical standards for institutional use
Chainlink and LG CNS, the technology arm of South Korea’s LG Group, have entered a strategic partnership to strengthen digital asset infrastructure in one of Asia’s largest cryptocurrency markets. The agreement, announced on October 22, centers on expanding the utility and distribution of Korean won-denominated stablecoins while integrating Chainlink’s oracle, cross-chain, and orchestration tools into LG CNS platforms serving financial institutions.
South Korea ranks as Asia’s second-largest digital asset market, with the Korean won consistently placing second only to the U.S. dollar in global crypto trading volume. The collaboration addresses a market estimated at $68 billion that includes more than 11 million eligible users for regulated digital assets.
Under the deal, LG CNS will incorporate the full Chainlink platform into its Digital Asset Platform Solution. This includes secure connectivity across blockchain networks and institutional systems, real-world data feeds, and tools for moving tokenized value between previously incompatible environments.
The companies identified three core areas of cooperation: enhancing LG CNS’s platform with Chainlink’s cross-chain, data, and orchestration infrastructure; jointly advancing technical standards for Korea’s digital asset economy; and developing institutional solutions that support oracle services, interoperability, and regulated digital assets.
A primary objective is to broaden the adoption of Korean won stablecoins. The partnership also aims to accelerate the growth of tokenized securities by enabling secure interoperability and access to real-world data.
LG CNS serves as the lead contractor for Project Hangang, the Bank of Korea’s digital currency initiative. The company is responsible for building, operating, and expanding the related infrastructure. The project’s first phase involved approximately 80,000 customers across seven Korean banks.
LG CNS is exploring the integration of Chainlink’s oracle infrastructure into its digital asset platform as part of its broader institutional offerings. The company sits within LG Group, one of South Korea’s largest business conglomerates, which holds approximately 186 trillion won (about $140 billion) in assets across 63 affiliates. Subsidiaries of the group carry a combined market capitalization exceeding $100 billion.
The partnership builds on earlier engagement between the two firms. Earlier in October, LG CNS launched its KITL blockchain infrastructure platform and signed memorandums of understanding with several technology providers, including Chainlink, focused on stablecoin and tokenized securities services.
South Korea continues work on the Digital Asset Basic Act, intended to establish a formal framework for issuing and trading won-backed stablecoins and other digital assets. Lawmakers and regulators are still refining key provisions, including rules around eligible issuers.
Chainlink already maintains relationships with major global financial institutions and infrastructures. The new agreement positions the company more deeply within South Korea’s institutional digital asset ecosystem, though the announcement did not disclose financial terms, specific customers, or commercial deployment timelines.
No confirmation was provided that Chainlink technology would be used directly within Project Hangang itself. Implementation details, including any concrete product launches or volume targets, remain subject to further development as the companies advance their collaboration and as regulatory clarity improves.
