Chainlink has delivered a Swift 2026 Business Challenge solution that fully automates cash dividend payments for tokenized equities spanning multiple blockchains, from notification through reconciliation
Chainlink has developed an end-to-end system for Swift’s 2026 Business Challenge that automates cash dividends on tokenized equities across four separate blockchains. The solution manages the complete corporate action process without manual intervention, covering the initial notification, ownership verification, compliance checks, payment distribution and final reconciliation.
Tokenized shares that exist on more than one blockchain create operational complexity for paying agents. They must identify the rightful holders on the record date, avoid double-counting shares that have moved between networks, calculate each investor’s entitlement and deliver payment to the correct digital wallet.
Chainlink’s system aggregates ownership records from the supported blockchains into a single verified view. Its Automated Compliance Engine independently validates investor identities, sanctions screening, tax obligations and eligibility before any funds are released. On the payment date, distributions are sent as stablecoins or tokenized deposits on the blockchain where the investor’s wallet resides. Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol moves the settlement asset to another network when required.
| Stage | System Action |
|---|---|
| Record date | Identify ownership across multiple chains |
| Eligibility checks | Automated compliance for identity, tax and sanctions |
| Payment | Distribute stablecoins or tokenized deposits; enable cross-chain settlement |
| Reconciliation | Complete record-keeping and audit without manual steps |
The architecture runs on the Chainlink Runtime Environment while remaining fully compatible with Swift’s ISO 20022 messaging standard. This allows traditional financial infrastructure to interact directly with blockchain-based assets using familiar data formats.
The same framework is designed to support additional corporate events beyond cash dividends. These include interest payments, redemptions, rights issues, stock splits and the establishment of proxy record dates. Settlement options can extend to central bank digital currencies in addition to stablecoins and tokenized deposits.
By enabling these functions, the system aims to make tokenized equities operate more like conventional securities rather than isolated blockchain representations of shares.
The dividend automation builds on earlier collaboration between the two organizations. Previous projects addressed tokenized investment funds and demonstrated interoperability between conventional financial messaging and multiple blockchain networks. In related work announced in late September, Chainlink enabled financial institutions to connect their internal systems and transaction-signing infrastructure to Swift’s blockchain ledger for tokenized deposits. Institutions retain control of their authorizing keys while the Chainlink Runtime Environment orchestrates workflows between bank ledgers and Swift’s coordination layer.
Swift has positioned its blockchain ledger to coordinate 24/7 cross-border payment workflows involving bank-issued tokenized deposits. Those deposits remain on the ledgers of the participating banks, with final settlement continuing through agreed mechanisms such as real-time gross settlement systems. At the time of the ledger’s activation announcement, 17 banks across six continents were preparing live pilot transactions.
Chainlink’s dividend solution was selected as runner-up in the Swift Hackathon Business Challenge. The demonstration proves a technical model for coordinating corporate actions across ledgers while preserving institutional messaging standards. Production deployment would require further integration with custodians, transfer agents, brokers and issuers.
