A major holder has taken a sizable leveraged position and multi-year stake in ASTER while the token trades below key moving averages amid persistent selling pressure
Aster (ASTER) continued to trade in a narrow range near $0.60 on Saturday, showing limited movement after a modest decline of less than 1% over the prior 24 hours. The token faced ongoing technical headwinds, remaining positioned beneath several major exponential moving averages that have constrained upward attempts for weeks.
Blockchain data tracked a significant market participant identified as 0x117f executing two notable transactions on Aster DEX. The wallet opened a 4x leveraged long position involving 7.2 million ASTER tokens valued at approximately $4.33 million. At the time of reporting, the position had already incurred losses exceeding $300,000 as price action stayed largely flat.
The same entity also locked 4.02 million ASTER, worth roughly $2.42 million, into a four-year staking arrangement. The dual moves combined short-term directional exposure with a longer-term commitment to the token’s yield mechanism.
Derivatives metrics indicated broader interest in long positions. The long-to-short ratio stood at 1.77, with longs comprising about 63% of open contracts. Futures open interest reached approximately $323 million, while 24-hour futures trading volume of $53 million substantially exceeded spot volume of $6.38 million. Roughly $89,000 in futures positions were liquidated during the same period.
ASTER traded below its 20-day exponential moving average near $0.608, the 50-day level at $0.619, the 100-day average around $0.639, and the 200-day average near $0.704. These levels have acted as successive resistance points, limiting sustained advances.
| Timeframe | EMA Level | Price Position |
|---|---|---|
| 20-day | $0.608 | Below |
| 50-day | $0.619 | Below |
| 100-day | $0.639 | Below |
| 200-day | $0.704 | Below |
Momentum indicators pointed to continued pressure. The relative strength index hovered near 43, below the neutral midpoint of 50. Stochastic momentum readings remained in negative territory following a recent bearish crossover, while the MACD displayed mild downward bias.
Price action throughout 2026 has shown repeated failures to hold gains above the $0.75–$0.80 zone after an earlier peak near $0.813 and a subsequent low around $0.403. More recently, the token has tested the $0.60 area as support after slipping below it, with a local demand zone identified between $0.590 and $0.595.
Platform activity included continued token repurchases funded by 99% of protocol fees. Cumulative buybacks reached more than 2.85 million ASTER. Staking totals had eased from $283 million to $276 million earlier in August before the latest large lock-up appeared.
Spot net flows and overall trading activity remained subdued relative to derivatives volumes, keeping the token within a confined range. Immediate resistance clustered near the 20-day and 50-day averages, while a sustained move through $0.619 would open the path toward the next layered barriers near $0.639 and the higher $0.69–$0.70 region.
Market data showed ASTER posting a slight gain of 0.45% for the month of August after steeper declines in prior months. The combination of concentrated whale positioning, elevated derivatives activity, and persistent technical resistance continues to define the near-term trading environment for the token.
