A U.S. mutual fund has reported ownership of Ripple Labs Class A common shares valued near $246,000 as of late June, amid ongoing private market activity and shifting views on a potential public listing
The Kinetics Internet Portfolio, managed under Kinetics Portfolios Trust, listed 1,875 Class A common shares of Ripple Labs Inc. in its quarterly Form NPORT-P filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. The position carried a fair value of $246,318.75 as of June 30, 2026, representing roughly 0.1 percent of the fund’s net assets of approximately $248.3 million.
Earlier reports had described the fund as holding about $275 million in assets with a Ripple position near $150,000. The primary regulatory document places total assets near $251.7 million and assigns the higher valuation to the private shares. The investment is classified as a Level 3 holding, meaning its value relies on significant unobservable inputs rather than active market quotations.
The same number of shares appeared in the fund’s March 31, 2026, schedule of investments, then described as preferred A shares with a fair value of $228,281 and a cost basis of $300,000. The June filing lists them as common A shares at a modestly higher fair value. The unchanged quantity indicates the disclosure does not confirm a new purchase during the latest quarter. Any shift in share class description remains unexplained in the filings.
Ripple Labs remains a privately held company. The Kinetics Internet Portfolio obtained the shares through specialized over-the-counter pre-IPO platforms available primarily to accredited investors. This route has become a common channel for institutions seeking equity exposure ahead of any public offering.
The holding coincides with Ripple’s $750 million tender offer to repurchase shares from early investors, a process that has valued the company at approximately $50 billion. Such secondary transactions provide liquidity for existing holders while allowing new institutional participants to enter at the current private valuation.
Ripple has not filed a registration statement or set a timeline for an initial public offering. At the Wyoming Blockchain Symposium 2026, Chief Executive Officer Brad Garlinghouse described the company’s position on a potential listing as more neutral than in prior periods. Previously, President Monica Long had indicated reluctance, citing the firm’s strong balance sheet and the absence of any fixed schedule.
Private market interest continues regardless of listing plans. Institutional investors appear willing to acquire equity stakes directly rather than wait for a public market debut, particularly as company valuation figures in the multi-billion-dollar range circulate through tender offer activity.
The disclosure arrives while the Securities and Exchange Commission has opened public consultation on a proposed Regulation Crypto Assets framework. The document outlines tailored rules for certain digital asset investment contracts yet treats conventional equity offerings under existing securities disclosure standards. Separate high-level meetings between U.S. authorities and Ripple executives have also taken place.
Ownership of Ripple Labs shares confers an equity interest in the company, including potential claims on residual value. By contrast, the XRP digital asset does not grant voting rights, dividends, or any contractual claim on Ripple Labs profits. The two instruments respond to different market factors and remain legally distinct. An eventual public listing of the company would not automatically confer ownership rights on XRP holders.
Kinetics must continue reporting its holdings in future regulatory filings. Those reports may clarify whether the fund retains, adjusts, or exits the position and whether the preferred-to-common description change resulted from conversion or reclassification. For now, the verified fact is a small, privately valued equity stake held by a regulated U.S. mutual fund as of the end of the second quarter.
