Ethereum has pushed past a major resistance level against Bitcoin, reaching 0.02858 on the ETH/BTC pair. Tom Lee of Fundstrat and Bitmine points to this move as an early sign of broader changes in crypto markets, driven by institutional flows and network activity
Ethereum's value relative to Bitcoin climbed above a resistance zone that had held since early June. The pair formed higher lows after hitting 0.026 in early June and recently tested the 0.0286 area. This movement follows a period of consolidation and comes alongside a golden cross on shorter timeframes, where the 50-hour moving average crossed above the 200-hour moving average.
Traders note that the ratio remains down about 7.7% over the past three months, but the recent advance has drawn attention to possible momentum changes. Bitcoin's market dominance has eased to around 56%, while the Altcoin Season Index has moved to 58, indicating growing relative strength in other assets.
Tom Lee, chairman of Bitmine and co-founder of Fundstrat, has described the ETH/BTC ratio as a key indicator for crypto market conditions. In comments ahead of events in Tokyo, he noted the pair as a signal of potential revival across digital assets.
Lee points to several developments supporting this view, including expansion in stablecoin usage, progress in asset tokenization, and new projects built around Ethereum. He also mentions supportive macroeconomic elements such as reduced energy costs and advances in U.S. legislation like the CLARITY Act.
Spot Ethereum ETFs recorded over $128 million in net inflows during July, exceeding those for Bitcoin ETFs in the same period. This marks a shift in institutional positioning toward Ethereum. Bitmine has expanded its Ether holdings through a sustained accumulation phase, though Lee indicated this effort may near completion.
| Asset | July Net ETF Flows | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Ethereum | $128 million inflow | Outpaced Bitcoin ETFs |
| Bitcoin | Lower inflows | Dominance up 1.5 points |
Despite these inflows, Ethereum investment products saw outflows earlier in the period, and the overall trend requires further confirmation through sustained activity.
Robinhood's new Layer 2 network, which uses Ethereum for fees and settles on the mainnet, has increased demand for ETH. Bridged volume to this network surged tenfold in a short period, exceeding $100 million. Transaction activity on the chain has already surpassed some established decentralized exchanges.
This development contributes to real usage on Ethereum beyond price speculation, aligning with broader growth in on-chain metrics.
Alex Thorn of Galaxy Research noted earlier market optimism that downplayed prior bearish signals on the pair. Recent price action has increased focus on potential bottoming patterns, as Ethereum strength has historically preceded periods of stronger altcoin performance.
The RSI on various timeframes has moved from oversold levels toward neutral territory. Analysts continue to monitor whether the current technical signals lead to further gains or face renewed resistance.
ETH/BTC broke above the 0.027 level, which aligned with the 50-day moving average, after trading below it since late April. Current levels place the pair near recent highs within the recovery phase.
