Crypto casino Duelbits shut down its platform on September 24 after attackers drained approximately $7 million from hot wallets, with the company investigating the incident and planning a full recovery
Duelbits, a prominent online crypto casino, took its website and services offline on September 24, 2026, after hackers breached its hot wallets and drained funds estimated at $7 million. The platform, which relies on cryptocurrency for transactions, remained closed as the team worked to understand the breach and prepare for resumption. Co-founder Joe confirmed the attack, stating that the platform was still investigating the exact cause and method while confirming that user funds held in cold storage stayed untouched.
The outage comes amid ongoing scrutiny of security practices in the crypto gaming sector, where hot wallets—those kept connected to transaction-signing systems—represent higher risk but enable faster operations. Duelbits described the incident as a suspected compromise involving exposed private keys, leading to transfers into newly created addresses.
Initial reports placed the total loss at $4.2 million across three major networks, with later updates raising the figure to around $7 million when including Bitcoin-related wallets. The stolen funds comprised:
Most of these assets were subsequently exchanged for ETH and moved to a single Ethereum address containing roughly 2,234 ETH, valued at about $6 million at the time of the reports. A smaller portion of the proceeds had not yet been moved. The activity spanned Ethereum, BNB Chain, Tron, and Bitcoin, with the transfers characterized by their movement into fresh wallet addresses.
Duelbits noted that its core user funds remained secure in offline cold storage, separating the hot-wallet exposure from protected reserves.
The company has not resumed operations and will stay offline until its hot wallets are fully replenished. Once funding is restored, Duelbits intends to launch Duelbits 2.0 as a new version of the platform. The team is prioritizing the investigation, fund replenishment, and eventual restart to minimize further disruption for players.
Hot wallets, while convenient, increase vulnerability to key compromises, a vulnerability the company is now addressing through heightened security measures during the recovery phase.
This incident underscores broader challenges facing centralized platforms in the decentralized crypto space. As gaming operators increasingly adopt blockchain-native models, the theft highlights the need for robust private-key management and diversified wallet strategies. Duelbits, one of the larger crypto casinos, serves millions of users and generates significant revenue, making the loss notable for the ecosystem.
No evidence suggests involvement from third-party exchanges or other external parties; the breach appears tied directly to wallet security lapses. The company has not provided a full timeline of the attack or detailed technical analysis, leaving regulators and industry experts to monitor developments.
