Nasdaq-listed firm activates 4.2 GSol/s of U.S.-based hashrate representing 18% of the network, expanding its ZEC treasury strategy
Cypherpunk Technologies Inc. has launched what it describes as the world’s largest Zcash mining fleet through a $33.33 million equity-based transaction with Winklevoss Capital. The operation, branded Cypherpunk Mining, is already live and producing approximately 4.2 GSol/s of Equihash hashrate from facilities across the United States.
The newly acquired capacity accounts for roughly 18% of the total Zcash network hashrate, according to the company. The fleet consists of latest-generation Z15 Pro machines obtained under an asset purchase agreement with Moria Mining LLC and Winklevoss Treasury Investments, LLC, along with related hosting contracts.
Payment for the $33.33 million deal took the form of a pre-funded warrant issued to Winklevoss Treasury Investments, LLC. The warrant covers 43,290,042 shares of Cypherpunk common stock at an exercise price of $0.001 per share, based on a $0.77 per-share valuation.
With the machines already operational, Cypherpunk Mining becomes the largest active Zcash mining fleet. The company stated that the setup benefits from industry-leading uptimes and hosting rates, providing access to an addressable market valued at more than $250 million annually at prevailing ZEC prices.
Cypherpunk already holds 323,394.38 ZEC, equal to about 1.92% of the circulating supply, positioning it as a major corporate holder of the privacy-focused cryptocurrency. The firm has set a longer-term target of accumulating 5% of the total ZEC supply.
Mining rewards are expected to support that goal. The network currently awards approximately 1,440 ZEC to miners each day, or about 43,800 ZEC per month. Cypherpunk’s share of hashrate is projected to generate meaningful additional ZEC at production costs below spot market levels, reducing reliance on open-market purchases.
Company executives noted that greater hashrate also enhances Zcash network security. A more secure network, they said, increases the value of Cypherpunk’s existing treasury holdings. The firm intends to act as a bridge connecting miners, developers, and the wider Zcash ecosystem.
Kevin Zhang has joined Cypherpunk as Head of Mining. Zhang has more than a decade of experience in Bitcoin and Zcash operations. He began mining Bitcoin in 2014 and Zcash in 2016, developed major North American Bitcoin facilities, led an early power-plant-to-mining conversion, and previously built the largest Bitcoin mining pool at Foundry while deploying extensive crypto mining capacity.
Cypherpunk has presented Zcash mining as offering stronger current economics than Bitcoin mining or AI data-center workloads under existing market conditions. Those economics remain sensitive to ZEC price movements, overall network hashrate, mining difficulty, and operating costs.
Cypherpunk Technologies describes itself as a privacy technology company focused on advancing tools that protect user privacy online. Its strategy centers on accumulating ZEC and investing in or building related privacy technologies, including its stake in ZODL, described as the most widely used Zcash wallet. Through its subsidiary Leap Therapeutics, the company also continues development of therapies for cancer patients.
The mining launch expands public-market exposure to both Zcash treasury holdings and mining operations under a single Nasdaq-listed entity.
