Large deposits of Hyperliquid tokens by major firms and ETF-linked wallets raise questions about near-term supply pressure as the token trades near $79
On September 15, 2026, on-chain data showed Multicoin Capital transferring a substantial volume of Hyperliquid (HYPE) tokens to Coinbase Prime. Tracking indicated a move of 441,000 HYPE, valued at approximately $35.31 million at the time of execution, originating from four linked wallets and completed over roughly six hours.
Separate monitoring confirmed Multicoin Capital deposited an additional 333,166 HYPE, worth $26.73 million, into Coinbase Prime. This followed a prior transfer of about 159,660 HYPE valued at $13 million six days earlier. The activity points to cumulative institutional positioning adjustments involving tens of millions of dollars in the token.
Alongside Multicoin’s activity, Bitwise’s BHYP ETF wallet transferred 84,320 HYPE, valued at $6.71 million, to Coinbase. On-chain observers noted related transfers from the same wallet cluster to Coinbase and Hyperliquid system addresses in preceding days. Bitwise recorded no net HYPE purchases over the past week, with its last net inflow occurring on September 4.
Hyperliquid Spot ETF data reinforced the pattern of reduced institutional demand. Net inflows last appeared more than a week earlier. Recent figures showed $8.18 million in net outflows, consistent with broader cashing-out activity among fund holders.
Despite the large deposits, overall spot exchange netflow for HYPE remained negative at approximately -$2.6 million at the time of reporting. This indicated that more tokens were being withdrawn from exchanges than deposited, suggesting absorption of incoming supply by other market participants.
Hyperliquid’s protocol continued token burns that reduce circulating supply. One recent burn removed 32,770 HYPE, valued at about $2.6 million. Such mechanisms have contributed to tighter available supply and supported longer-term holder sentiment even as short-term institutional flows turned outward.
HYPE traded near $79.08, down roughly 0.9 percent over 24 hours. Market capitalization stood close to $20 billion, with open interest around $2.91 billion and 24-hour futures volume near $2.51 billion. Circulating supply was approximately 251.69 million tokens out of a total supply near 951.73 million.
The token remained below its simple moving average near $80. The MACD indicator pointed lower, consistent with short-term weakness. Immediate technical focus centered on an ascending trendline support. A sustained break below $76.55 could open a path toward $74.89, while a close above $82.49 would shift attention to higher resistance zones near $87 and $89.72.
| Level | Price (USD) | Distance from ~$79.08 |
|---|---|---|
| Major Resistance | 89.72 | +13.5% |
| Resistance | 87.03 | +10.1% |
| Breakout Trigger | 82.49 | +4.3% |
| Current Area | 79.08 | — |
| Breakdown Trigger | 76.55 | -3.2% |
| Support Zone | 74.89 | -5.3% |
Exchange deposits do not automatically result in immediate sales, yet historical patterns show they often precede distribution. Combined with recent ETF outflows and the token’s position below key moving averages, the transfers have introduced additional supply-side caution into the market. Protocol-level burns and negative net exchange flows have so far limited the downside impact.
