ARK Invest CEO sees strong long-term potential in the cross-chain protocol while a sizable token release approaches mid-September
ARK Invest CEO Cathie Wood has expressed confidence in LayerZero, stating that investors are underestimating the protocol’s importance in cross-chain messaging. Her comments came after analysis from ARK researcher Lorenzo Valente, who projected that LayerZero’s interoperability services could eventually produce nine-figure annual recurring revenue.
LayerZero enables verified messages and data to move across blockchains that cannot communicate directly. According to ARK data through June, the protocol has supported more than 170 networks and facilitated $280 billion in cumulative value transfers. It accounted for roughly 44 percent of cross-chain volume in the first half of 2026, compared with about 41 percent for Circle’s CCTP.
LayerZero recently adjusted its pricing structure. On September 1 it introduced a fee of up to 2 basis points on OFT transfers executed through Stargate, capped at $250 per transaction, and raised the minimum LayerZero Labs Executor charge to $0.25. Excess Stargate revenue is now directed toward open-market purchases of ZRO.
The company acquired Stargate in 2025 and had already been applying bridge revenue to monthly ZRO buybacks. Between September and November 2025, Stargate generated approximately $2.4 million in revenue, half of which funded token purchases. The updated model strengthens the connection between network activity and demand for the token.
A significant test arrives later this month. Around September 19–20, approximately 23.6 million ZRO tokens allocated to core contributors and strategic partners are scheduled to unlock. At recent prices near $1.04 to $1.06, the release is valued at roughly $25 million and equals about 6.7 percent of the circulating supply of roughly 353 million tokens. Maximum supply stands at 1 billion.
ZRO has risen about 36 percent over the past month after touching a low of $0.71 on July 31, yet it remains well below its December 2024 peak of $7.47. Market capitalization is approximately $368.7 million.
LayerZero continues to face rivalry. Chainlink’s CCIP has attracted notable migrations, including Mantle’s shift of more than $2.5 billion in MNT infrastructure and Lombard’s transfer of over $1 billion in Bitcoin-backed assets. Those moves followed scrutiny related to a roughly $292 million exploit involving KelpDAO, though LayerZero maintained that its core protocol was not compromised.
ARK Invest has disclosed financial interests in both LayerZero Labs and the ZRO token. Its earlier investment, made alongside Citadel Securities and Tether, previously supported a sharp price rally. Valente characterized the nine-figure revenue outlook as his own assessment rather than an official firm forecast, leaving future fee growth and buyback effectiveness as key variables for the thesis.
