Sui, a layer-1 blockchain from Mysten Labs, recorded 40.6 million transactions per second during a live offchain test simulating high-frequency activity between AI agents. The milestone, reached at Sui Basecamp in Singapore on October 7, 2026, more than doubles the prior benchmark and underscores the network’s scaling capabilities for machine-to-machine interactions
Sui’s programmable offchain tunnels processed a peak of 40,614,180 transactions per second in the demonstration. The test, held at the Singapore event, saw more than 10,000 tunnels operate on the mainnet simultaneously. Activity covered payments, gaming, and chat applications, all executed offchain before final settlement to the blockchain.
This represents a substantial increase from the 6.1 million TPS achieved in a similar July test using the same tunnel technology. The tunnels enable repeated interactions without submitting every transaction directly to onchain validators, batching activity to reduce congestion and costs.
Programmable offchain tunnels function as dedicated channels on the mainnet. Users or applications initiate a tunnel with a single onchain transaction, allowing thousands of offchain actions to proceed rapidly inside the channel. Only the opening and closing steps settle onchain, with cosigning by participants ensuring transparency and verifiability.
The design targets workloads involving frequent, autonomous activity such as AI agent interactions. This approach proved effective in the stress test, which exceeded Sui’s internal 20 million TPS target for the event.
The test specifically simulated environments where thousands of AI agents might transact simultaneously. Co-founder and chief product officer Adeniyi Abiodun explained the vision: “Sui is built for the moment when millions of AI agents are transacting every day.” He added, “No market in the world needs 6 million transactions per second, let alone 40 million: people just don’t move that fast. Agents do.”
Earlier partnerships support this direction. Sui serves as a launch partner for Google’s Agentic Payments Protocol, providing programmable infrastructure for AI agents to handle payments, access controls, and licensing automatically on behalf of users.
CertiK, a blockchain security firm, acted as the external auditor during the live demonstration. The company examined execution proofs, logs, and cryptographic transcripts from the test. A detailed report is expected in the coming days to confirm the accuracy of the recorded throughput.
This independent oversight helps validate the results for the broader ecosystem, particularly as Sui positions its infrastructure for high-volume AI and enterprise use cases.
Sui has expanded its utility beyond traditional blockchain applications. The network launched its native USDsui stablecoin in March, supporting payments, cross-border transfers, and decentralized finance activities. Earlier stablecoin transfer volumes on the platform exceeded $111 billion in a single month.
Staking products tied to SUI are also available to U.S. investors through regulated funds and exchange services, broadening access to the network’s capabilities.
| Test Date | Peak TPS | Technology |
|---|---|---|
| July | 6,100,000 | Programmable offchain tunnels |
| October 7 | 40,614,180 | Programmable offchain tunnels |
The demonstration highlights Sui’s progress toward supporting real-world demands in sectors requiring rapid, high-volume processing. The tunnels’ ability to maintain performance under simulated AI workloads positions the platform for potential future applications in autonomous systems and machine economies.
