The Avalanche-based move-to-earn platform will end all services, directing users to unstake tokens and handle exchange positions ahead of the deadline.
Step App, one of the earlier platforms combining physical activity tracking with blockchain rewards, will shut down completely by August 21. The project, built around the FITFI token and operating primarily on Avalanche, confirmed the wind-down after four years of activity.
In its official statement, the team described the move as a difficult decision reached after careful consideration. It expressed pride in the platform’s record, noting more than one million downloads and billions of steps tracked by users. The project also formed multiple partnerships across traditional and blockchain sectors during its run.
Step App allowed participants to earn rewards through walking, jogging, and running. Users accumulated KCAL as an in-app currency for minting and upgrading SNEAK NFT sneakers, while FITFI served as the governance and utility token for staking, fees, and marketplace activity. The platform operated across the Step Network and Avalanche.
The team instructed holders to unstake any locked FITFI tokens and manage related exchange positions before services end. Remaining balances should be withdrawn from the associated wallet. No compensation program, token buyback, migration path, or successor platform has been announced.
After August 21, access to core functions such as the marketplace, exchange, bridge, and staking is expected to end. Users are advised to complete transfers through official channels and confirm the correct network to avoid irreversible loss of assets.
FITFI has experienced a steep decline since its peak. The token reached an all-time high near $0.73 in May 2022, roughly 149 times its public sale price of about $0.0049. Recent trading levels place it more than 99 percent below that high.
Several exchanges have already restricted access. Bithumb will end FITFI trading on August 18, with withdrawals closing on September 18. KuCoin set a withdrawal deadline of August 31 after removing the token, while Bybit had earlier delisted the asset. These timelines operate independently of the project’s August 21 cutoff.

Step App’s closure occurs amid ongoing challenges for move-to-earn projects in sustaining long-term user engagement and viable token economics. The platform launched with high visibility, including an introduction in Japan by Olympic champion Usain Bolt as global ambassador in 2022. It reported strong early registration figures and first-month downloads exceeding 115,000.
The team has not cited a single financial, technical, or regulatory cause for the shutdown. Further updates, if any, are expected only through verified project channels. Holders with remaining positions face separate deadlines depending on whether assets sit on the platform or on individual exchanges.
