The $1.1 trillion asset manager launches its first Solana product, an actively managed emerging markets debt strategy structured as a tokenized feeder fund
Schroders, the London-based global asset manager founded more than two centuries ago, has partnered with tokenization platform Centrifuge to bring its emerging markets bond strategy onto the Solana blockchain. The move marks the firm’s first deployment on the network and extends institutional tokenization beyond cash-like products into actively managed fixed income.
The firm oversaw $1.1 trillion in assets under management as of June. It is tokenizing the Schroder International Selection Fund Emerging Market Bonds strategy, an established portfolio that invests in sovereign, corporate and local-currency debt issued across emerging economies.
The onchain vehicle, known as SISF, is legally structured as a feeder fund with a blockchain-based share class. Investors hold tokenized shares in the feeder rather than direct interests in the underlying Schroders fund. The feeder invests in the Emerging Market Bond Fund, and the value of the tokenized shares tracks the fund’s net asset value.
Centrifuge supplies the issuance and management infrastructure. The platform reports more than $750 million in tokenized assets under its system. Schroders has invested in emerging markets debt for more than 50 years and maintains a team of over 40 dedicated investment professionals covering the asset class.
Marita McGinley, Schroders’ head of operations for APAC and digital assets, described the launch as the firm’s initial presence on Solana. She stated that the firm is tokenizing this specific investment strategy and issuing it on the network. McGinley also called the initiative further evidence of the company’s commitment to developing investment solutions suited to investors in the digital age.
In a separate comment, McGinley noted that working with Centrifuge enables Schroders to make its expertise available to a new generation of investors while continuing to innovate in the delivery of investment solutions.
The Solana deployment follows Schroders’ earlier progress in tokenization. In August the firm received regulatory approval in Ireland for its first tokenized share class of a U.S. dollar money market fund, known as Schroders Onchain Active Returns.
The launch arrives as traditional asset managers expand tokenized offerings past short-term government securities and money market funds. Other recent examples include high-yield bond strategies and equity index products brought onchain by peer managers working with platforms such as Centrifuge.
Anil Sood, Centrifuge’s chief strategy and growth officer, characterized the Schroders product as an important evolution in the market because onchain fixed income has so far centered largely on cash and short-duration government securities. The addition of actively managed emerging markets debt introduces a differentiated source of risk and return to digital capital markets.
Schroders’ strategy provides exposure to markets and currencies outside the United States and Europe. Returns are driven by borrower repayment reliability, currency movements and broader economic conditions in emerging economies. The tokenized structure preserves the existing governance, valuation and custodial arrangements of the underlying fund while adding blockchain-based issuance and recordkeeping.
Fund size for the tokenized feeder has not been disclosed. Centrifuge has indicated that Solana already supports more than $4 billion in tokenized real-world asset value. The product is now live on the network.
