Robinhood begins rolling out access to more than 50 digital assets in its UK app this week, integrating crypto with existing investment products and adding an AI analysis tool
Robinhood has started offering cryptocurrency trading to eligible customers in the United Kingdom, enabling them to buy and sell more than 50 digital assets directly within its main investing application. The service, which begins rolling out this week, routes trades through Bitstamp UK Ltd, the exchange Robinhood acquired for $200 million last year.
Available assets include Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP and Hyperliquid. The offering sits alongside the firm’s existing UK products such as stocks and shares ISAs, equities, options and futures, creating a single-app experience for customers.
Robinhood is introducing the service with no trading fees, no custody fees and no account maintenance fees. Customers will incur a 0.1% foreign exchange fee on currency conversions, with the rate rising to 0.3% for certain weekend transactions.
Trades are handled by Bitstamp UK Ltd, which is registered with the Financial Conduct Authority as a cryptoasset service provider. Robinhood’s UK subsidiary itself was added to the FCA’s register of cryptoasset firms on July 31. Cryptocurrencies held through Bitstamp UK are not protected by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme and fall outside the scope of the Financial Ombudsman Service.
Alongside trading access, Robinhood is launching Cortex Digests for Crypto. The generative AI feature analyses breaking news, market data, technical indicators and the company’s proprietary insights to explain in plain English the factors driving price movements in individual cryptocurrencies.
The tool is intended to give investors additional context when evaluating digital assets and extends the existing Robinhood Cortex capabilities into the crypto section of the UK app.
The UK crypto launch forms part of Robinhood’s wider international expansion. The company has also developed Robinhood Chain, a permissionless Layer 2 network built using Arbitrum technology. Developers, including those based in the UK, can build applications on the network. Company figures show the chain has recorded more than $18 billion in decentralised exchange trading volume and more than $840 million in total value locked since its launch on July 1.
The timing coincides with the UK’s transition toward a new crypto authorisation regime. Applications under the incoming framework are expected to open at the end of September and remain open until the end of February 2027, with the full regime scheduled to take effect in October 2027. Firms will need to meet the requirements of the new system to continue offering covered services after the transition.
