The German automaker is closing its 911 NFT project and related community, while confirming the digital collectibles will remain on the blockchain with their owners
Porsche has announced the conclusion of its Web3 project and the associated PIONΞERS CIRCLE community, nearly four years after introducing a digital collection based on its iconic 911 sports car. The decision was shared via the project's official X account, marking the end of an initiative that began as a brand exploration into digital spaces and later expanded into a broader community of holders.
Existing PORSCHΞ 911 NFTs will stay in holders' wallets and continue to exist on the blockchain. The company has not outlined any process for redemption, burning, or migration of the tokens. Support infrastructure around the collection is being wound down, including the transition of the community Discord server into a read-only archive that preserves past discussions and content. The @eth_porsche X account will no longer receive active updates.
The project was first presented at Art Basel in Miami in December 2022, with the mint opening in January 2023 on Ethereum. Porsche initially planned a supply of 7,500 digital 911s, each priced at 0.911 ETH. Buyers could select design paths—Performance, Heritage, or Lifestyle—that influenced the development of their individual NFTs. Holders were positioned to shape the artwork over time and gain access to community experiences.
Minting faced immediate difficulties. Negative feedback regarding pricing and limited utility prompted the company to halt the process early and reduce the total supply. Approximately 18 percent of the planned tokens had been minted when the change was announced, and the final collection size settled at 2,363. At the time, the floor price had already dropped below the original mint cost. Porsche stated then that it would focus on delivering a stronger experience for the remaining exclusive community of holders.
When the broader Web3 plans were unveiled in 2022, then-deputy chairman Lutz Meschke described the commitment as one made “for the long haul,” pointing to potential applications in the metaverse, purchasing experiences, and supply chains.
Over subsequent years, PIONΞERS CIRCLE developed past pure NFT ownership. Holders gained invitations to physical events tied to Porsche vehicles and motorsport activities, including gatherings at racetracks. The Discord server served as the primary online hub where members could interact with the company and share input. Some participants later took on roles as community ambassadors, gathering ideas from other holders and channeling feedback to the project team.
Porsche framed the initiative as a space for experimentation, culture, and shared online and offline experiences. The company has credited community members for their contributions of ideas, creative work, and participation throughout the project’s duration.
Secondary market activity in the collection has declined significantly from its earlier levels. All-time trading volume stands at roughly $20 million. Over the past year the figure has been approximately $38,000, with only about $2,900 recorded in the most recent month.
With the official project now closed, the NFTs remain fully owned by their current holders and tradable on secondary platforms. The archived Discord will allow continued access to historical community material, though active operations and new official communications through the project’s X account have ceased. Porsche directed those seeking additional details to the archived Discord community in its announcement.
The company noted that as the journey concludes, it continues to evolve and adapt to new opportunities on its own terms.
