A community crowdfunding proposal by developer jpk68 has raised over two-thirds of its target to support three months of full-time work on anonymity networks and core software
Monero developer jpk68 has put forward a Community Crowdfunding System proposal requesting 45 XMR to fund three months of full-time development focused on privacy infrastructure, wallet software and core network improvements. As of October 26, the effort had attracted 31.04 XMR from 42 contributors, leaving 13.96 XMR still needed to reach the goal.
The proposal, originally submitted on July 23, calls for 40 hours of work each week. Funding would be released in three equal milestones of 15 XMR once the full amount is secured and the proposal advances to active development status.
The developer outlined several concrete priorities. One centers on adding Tor Control protocol support to monerod, Monero’s core daemon, so the software can automatically configure onion services and reduce the manual steps currently required. Another involves exploring integration of the existing I2P SAM implementation into core wallet code to enable smoother connections through remote nodes.
Additional tasks include continued improvements to the Monero graphical user interface, ongoing testing and support for anonymity network code, code reviews of other contributors’ work, and routine bug fixes. The developer noted that any unfinished items from a previous crowdfunding effort would be completed separately and would not count toward the hours covered by the new proposal.
jpk68 has contributed to the project for roughly a year and reports approximately 50 merged pull requests in the first eight months of work. Earlier efforts included bringing I2P support to P2Pool, adding I2P SAM functionality to monerod and the graphical wallet, assisting the migration of the Monero GUI to Qt6, addressing software correctness issues, improving build performance and updating documentation.
The developer requested that any remaining donations from a completed I2P SAM bounty be considered for the new proposal, citing the similarity of the planned work. Whether those funds will be transferred remains open.
Monero relies on voluntary community donations rather than a central foundation treasury for most development work. Through the Community Crowdfunding System, developers submit proposals for public discussion. Once accepted, proposals enter a funding phase in which supporters contribute XMR toward the stated target. Fully funded proposals move into a work-in-progress category, with payments tied to completion of agreed milestones.
The official crowdfunding dashboard lists multiple active and completed efforts covering wallet software, protocol research, security audits and maintenance. Recent examples include a 500 XMR audit related to FCMP++ integration and a separate 120 XMR allocation for full-time work by another contributor.
Monero’s official account on the social platform X drew attention to the proposal on October 26 after the developer publicly requested community support several days earlier, directing followers to the funding page.
The proposal remains in the funding stage pending the remaining contributions needed to begin the three-month work period.
