Ledger introduced Atom, a smartphone-shaped device that separates everyday Android apps from hardware-protected crypto transactions, as the company continues its probe into compromised wallets linked to suspected losses exceeding $86 million
Ledger announced Atom on October 15 at its Op3n conference in Paris. The compact touchscreen device measures roughly the size of a smartphone and runs a version of the Android operating system alongside a dedicated secure element that handles all crypto-related tasks.
Everyday applications operate in a standard Android environment while sensitive operations, such as approving transactions, shift to a separate “Secure Mode.” In this mode, Ledger OS controls the display and touch interface directly, ensuring that any changes to transaction details must be verified on the isolated screen. A physical switch allows users to power down the camera and microphone entirely.
The device features a 6.77-inch OLED screen, a Qualcomm Dragonwing processor, a single rear camera, and a 4,000mAh battery. It supports mobile data connectivity but does not handle voice calls or SMS through its native interface, allowing third-party apps to use the connection for those functions when needed.
Atom includes an active shield around its secure components that detects attempts to probe or modify the enclosure. Sensors on the display and back cover identify interference, while the design pairs the cover uniquely with the device to prevent simple replacement. Tamper-evident packaging completes the outer layer of protection.
These features address concerns raised by a recent supply-chain incident involving modified Ledger devices sold through Southeast Asian resellers. The company said its core hardware, operating system, and internal servers remained uncompromised, but it has tightened controls on reseller practices, including requirements for devices to be handed directly to customers rather than displayed and for returns to be tracked carefully.
Ledger named Solana Mobile as its first hardware expansion partner. The Seeker app, which combines a wallet with access to more than 1,500 decentralized applications, arrives preinstalled on Atom. Users will be able to manage Solana-based transactions directly from the device without sacrificing hardware-level security.
Planned expansions include identity verification, encrypted messaging between compatible Atom devices, and support for AI agent approvals. In the latter, users review transactions proposed by AI tools before authorizing them, keeping private keys isolated from any third-party systems. Some features, such as full Solana integration and AI capabilities, will require additional certifications and licensing before full release.
Ledger is accepting reservations for the Founders Edition priced at $849, with a fully refundable $100 deposit required. The company estimates deliveries in the second quarter of 2027, though exact shipping timelines remain subject to development and regulatory approvals. Initial availability will be through Ledger’s official website.
Atom is positioned as a complement to existing smartphones rather than a replacement, allowing users to run daily apps while keeping crypto signing on the secure chip. The company has committed to five years of Android updates and seven years of spare parts support for the device.

The announcement comes as Ledger works to rebuild trust after the tampering incident that affected devices distributed through a third-party network in Southeast Asia and Hong Kong. The company has pulled affected products from shelves in those regions and is actively investigating the full scope of the compromise.
Atom represents Ledger’s effort to address growing demands for seamless integration of crypto security into everyday mobile use while maintaining the highest standards of asset protection.
