Dubai carrier activates regulated digital asset checkout for eligible residents paying in dirhams, advancing regional cashless goals
Emirates has activated Crypto.com Pay as a checkout option on its website and mobile application, allowing eligible United Arab Emirates residents to book flights using supported digital assets. Transactions are priced and settled exclusively in Emirati dirhams, with the payment provider handling conversion before settlement with the airline.
Customers holding a Crypto.com account can select the payment method during the booking process on emirates.com or the Emirates App. Mobile users are redirected to the Crypto.com application to authorize the transfer from their wallet and then returned to the airline platform for confirmation and electronic ticket issuance. Desktop users scan a QR code displayed on the booking page and complete approval through the Crypto.com app on their phones.
The service remains limited to eligible UAE residents and bookings denominated in dirhams. No timeline has been announced for expansion to non-residents, foreign currencies or additional markets. Crypto.com’s Dubai subsidiary, Foris DAX Middle East FZE, processes the payments under a Stored Value Facilities licence issued by the Central Bank of the UAE. The entity converts customer crypto holdings into a regulated dirham stablecoin or dirham fiat before settling with Emirates, ensuring compliance with local requirements that permit only regulated local-currency instruments for such transactions.
The live integration follows a memorandum of understanding signed by the two companies in July 2025. The progression from agreement to operational service took less than twelve months.
Kazim also noted that the option addresses preferences of a younger, digitally fluent generation that manages finances and travel plans primarily through smartphones.
Anziani described the collaboration as evidence of the UAE’s approach to financial innovation.
The launch supports Dubai’s Cashless Strategy under the D33 Economic Agenda, which targets conversion of 90 percent of government and private-sector financial transactions to digital form by the end of 2026. Emirates previously partnered with Dubai Finance on digital payment initiatives, while Crypto.com separately collaborated with the same authority to enable digital payments for government services. The airline integration places a major international carrier within that broader infrastructure effort.
Emirates becomes the fourth airline worldwide to offer crypto-linked flight payments, joining airBaltic, Vueling and Peach Aviation. Founded in 1985 and now serving more than 140 destinations, the carrier adds the option without replacing existing card or other conventional payment methods. Any future expansion beyond the current UAE-resident, dirham-only scope will depend on regulatory approvals, settlement arrangements and the airline’s evaluation of customer demand.
