A long-dormant Bitcoin wallet transferred 2,931 BTC valued at approximately $188 million to a new address, drawing attention across the cryptocurrency market
A Bitcoin address inactive for over seven years and nine months became active on July 12, 2026, sending 2,931 BTC to a fresh wallet. Blockchain analytics platforms including Arkham Intelligence tracked the movement from the originating address “356my…BAsmK” to “bc1qn…8gp25” around 3:41 p.m. Eastern Time.
The recipient address has shown no subsequent activity. The transfer occurred while Bitcoin traded near $64,000. The same coins were last moved on October 23, 2018, when Bitcoin’s price stood around $6,475 to $6,513, representing nearly a tenfold increase in value over the holding period.
Such movements from long-inactive wallets frequently prompt close examination by market participants. The coins remained untouched through multiple market cycles, including Bitcoin’s rise to $69,000 in 2021, the drop below $20,000 in 2022, and later highs in 2024 and 2025.
Analysts note that transfers of this nature can serve various purposes, including security upgrades or preparation for other arrangements, though they sometimes precede sales. No immediate signs point to exchange deposits in this case.
This event aligns with a series of similar occurrences. In July 2025, a wallet dormant for 14 years moved Bitcoin worth over $8.7 billion, marking one of the largest such transfers recorded. Earlier in 2026, multiple addresses from 2013–2017 periods also showed activity, moving tens of millions in BTC.
| Date of Last Activity | BTC Price Then | Transfer Date | Amount | Approximate Value |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| October 23, 2018 | $6,475 | July 12, 2026 | 2,931 BTC | $188 million |
| ~2011 (14 years prior) | Low | July 2025 | Large volume | $8.7 billion |
Concurrent with the BTC transfer, onchain data showed another large trader converting substantial Ether holdings into Bitcoin. The entity moved a total of 17,385 ETH, valued at about $31 million, into 496.3 BTC at an ETH/BTC ratio near 0.0285. This continues a pattern of rotating out of ETH observed earlier in the year.
Bitcoin traded around $63,000 to $64,000 during the period of these activities, with typical daily fluctuations.
