Robinhood plans to let eligible US users connect third-party AI agents to dedicated accounts for automated cryptocurrency trades under user-set rules
Robinhood announced during a recent presentation that it will extend its agentic trading feature to cryptocurrency. Eligible US customers will soon connect AI agents to trade crypto on their behalf. The company first introduced agentic trading for equities and options in late May.
More than 70,000 agentic accounts opened in the initial weeks after the equities beta launch. The crypto version will provide the same real-time profit-and-loss tracking and push notifications available in the equities product.
Customers work with AI agents to create trading strategies within specific limits. Agents monitor markets and execute trades without requiring constant user oversight. Robinhood supports third-party AI models including those from Anthropic, OpenAI, and Grok.
The rollout starts with US customers, followed by the UK. No exact launch date was provided for the crypto feature. Equities traders already use agents for areas such as crypto mining stocks.
The agentic trading expansion occurs alongside growth in Robinhood Chain, the company’s Ethereum layer-2 network. In its first week after launch, the network processed roughly 17 million transactions from nearly 350,000 wallet addresses.
Total value locked on the chain reached over $115 million, with significant Uniswap trading volume recorded. Bridged Ether exceeded $70 million in the initial period. These developments support broader on-chain capabilities including tokenization of real-world assets.
Robinhood also enables AI agents for credit card purchases under preset conditions for eligible customers. The company positions these tools as ways to provide retail users with capabilities long available to institutions.
Coinbase previously introduced its own agent platform in June. Industry figures including Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong and Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire noted expectations for AI agents to play a larger role in blockchain payments.
House Financial Services Committee Democrats sent questions to the SEC about agentic trading in June, with a July 31 deadline for responses. Representatives Bill Foster and Brad Sherman raised concerns about potential market volatility from similar agent behavior and liability questions for brokers and developers.
Despite industry integrations for AI agent payments, such as those involving USDC and USDT, on-chain activity volumes remain modest. Data from June showed limited transaction amounts through certain protocols.
