Japanese lender CRYL has introduced Bitcoin-collateralized loans ranging from 1 million to 1 billion yen, providing yen liquidity to individuals and businesses without asset sales
CRYL started offering the Bitcoin-backed loan product on July 9. Loan sizes run from about $6,200 to $6.2 million. Annual interest rates range from 3.5% to 7%, with collateral ratios set between 40% and 60%.
Most contracts last one year. Borrowers typically repay the full principal and interest in a single payment at the end of the term. Some credit-line arrangements allow additional borrowing if the loan-to-value ratio stays under 60%.
CRYL operates as a registered money lender in Tokyo. The company belongs to the Japan Financial Services Association and connects to the J-CAM group, known for its BitLending activities.
Fintertech has provided digital asset-backed loans in Japan since 2020. This joint venture between Daiwa Securities Group and Credit Saison originally targeted companies and sole traders using Bitcoin collateral. It later expanded to individuals and added Ether.
Fintertech loans currently reach up to $3 million with rates from 4% to 8% and a 50% collateral ratio. The minimum loan size stands at 5 million yen. In October 2025, Daiwa Securities began referring customers from its branches across Japan to Fintertech products.
| Provider | Max Loan | Rates | Collateral | Min Loan |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| CRYL | $6.2M | 3.5-7% | BTC only | $6,200 |
| Fintertech | $3M | 4-8% | BTC & ETH | $31,000 |
The CRYL launch adds to growing activity around Bitcoin use in Japanese lending and credit markets. Companies continue testing new ways to incorporate the asset into financing structures.
CRYL positions the loans as an alternative for Bitcoin holders who need cash but wish to keep their holdings. Borrowers transfer BTC to the lender and receive approved yen amounts. Changes in Bitcoin prices can affect collateral positions during the loan period.
Separately, Metaplanet Securities, yen stablecoin issuer JPYC, and tokenization provider Progmat announced a study into using Bitcoin as collateral or credit support for digital corporate bonds. The project remains in the research stage with no issuance confirmed.
This development occurs as more firms examine Bitcoin's role beyond simple holding. The product gives regulated access to liquidity while maintaining exposure to the asset's price movements. Actual uptake will depend on borrower demand and the lender's management of collateral risks.
