Paradigm has closed a $1.2 billion venture fund targeting AI and robotics companies while maintaining its focus on crypto investments
Paradigm, a major venture firm known for its work in digital assets, has raised $1.2 billion for a new fund dedicated to artificial intelligence and robotics. This vehicle represents the firm's latest effort to back companies in these areas, following reports from multiple sources on July 8, 2026.
The fund size positions it as a substantial commitment. Paradigm has already put money to work in specific deals, including Zipline International, an autonomous drone delivery company valued at $7.6 billion earlier in 2026, and True Anomaly, a space defense startup valued at $2.2 billion in April 2026.
Leadership at Paradigm has stated that the new fund does not indicate any reduction in crypto efforts. The firm continues to support projects in digital assets alongside its AI work.
Recent crypto-related actions include co-leading a $175 million round for the decentralized lending protocol Morpho in June 2026 and leading a seed round for M1X Global, focused on tokenized U.S. Treasuries infrastructure.
Founded in 2018 by Matt Huang and Fred Ehrsam, co-founder of Coinbase, Paradigm established itself through large-scale crypto investments. The firm raised a $2.5 billion crypto fund in 2021, noted at the time as one of the largest in the sector, followed by an $850 million fund in 2024 for early-stage blockchain initiatives.
Paradigm now manages approximately $12.7 billion across its vehicles. The new AI and robotics fund operates as a distinct pool, allowing the firm to pursue opportunities in multiple technology domains.
Matt Huang has previously addressed the relationship between different technology areas. In statements from 2023, he noted that the firm views AI developments as significant while rejecting any notion of competition with crypto priorities.
Examples of overlap include prior work such as a collaboration with OpenAI on EVMbench, a tool for testing AI agents on smart contract vulnerabilities, and backing for Nous Research in decentralized AI infrastructure.
The timing of the fund close aligns with broader patterns in venture capital allocation during 2026, where AI-related opportunities have drawn substantial capital compared to other sectors. Paradigm's move reflects its research-oriented approach to identifying structurally important technologies.
Both Zipline and True Anomaly operate in areas involving physical systems and advanced engineering, distinct from typical digital asset projects but consistent with a strategy of backing capable teams in frontier fields.
| Company | Sector | Valuation |
|---|---|---|
| Zipline International | Autonomous Drone Delivery | $7.6 billion (Jan 2026) |
| True Anomaly | Space Defense | $2.2 billion (Apr 2026) |
Paradigm's approach involves using its existing team to assess deals across domains rather than creating isolated groups for new areas.
