Company's second major BTC outflow this year raises questions about its treasury strategy as Bitcoin trades near $77,000
Trump Media & Technology Group has moved another large batch of Bitcoin to a major exchange, continuing a pattern of activity that has drawn attention from market observers. The transfer of 2,650 BTC, valued at approximately $205 million, marks the latest development in the company's cryptocurrency holdings, which were acquired at much higher prices last year.
Blockchain analytics firm Lookonchain reported the movement of 2,650 Bitcoin from wallets associated with Trump Media to Crypto.com. This action comes as Bitcoin trades around $77,000 to $78,000, significantly below the levels at which the company built its position.
While deposits to exchanges do not always indicate immediate selling, such moves often prompt speculation about potential liquidation or other strategic shifts. The funds remain in the Crypto.com wallet following the transfer.
Four months ago, Trump Media executed a similar transfer of 2,000 BTC worth about $175 million when Bitcoin was trading near $87,000. The company originally acquired 11,542 BTC at an average cost basis of roughly $118,522 per coin, representing a total investment of approximately $1.37 billion.
After the two major outflows, remaining holdings stand at around 6,889 BTC. At current market prices, the value of these holdings sits well below the original cost, contributing to substantial paper losses.
The transfers occur during a period of cautious market sentiment. Bitcoin has faced pressure from macroeconomic factors, including interest rate concerns and shifting investor confidence. Large corporate movements like this can influence short-term trader psychology, even if the overall volume represents a modest portion of daily Bitcoin trading activity.
Analysts note that while such inflows can create temporary selling pressure signals on exchanges, Bitcoin's long-term holder behavior remains relatively stable. Data suggests a significant portion of the circulating supply has not moved in over a year, indicating conviction among many investors despite current conditions.
As the parent company of Truth Social and majority owned by the Donald J. Trump Revocable Trust, Trump Media operates in a unique space. The company's Bitcoin strategy has been viewed through the lens of broader political narratives around cryptocurrency adoption and strategic reserves.
However, the practical execution has involved notable losses on the treasury position. The company also maintains a partnership with Crypto.com, including holdings in related tokens, which adds another layer to its digital asset exposure.
Industry observers continue to monitor whether these moves signal a broader shift in corporate treasury approaches or represent isolated decisions based on specific business requirements.
The immediate market reaction to such transfers tends to be limited given Bitcoin's overall liquidity. Daily trading volumes in spot and derivatives markets regularly exceed several billion dollars, making a $205 million move notable but not decisive on its own.
Longer term, corporate participation in Bitcoin remains a developing trend. Cases like Trump Media's highlight both the opportunities and risks of holding volatile assets on corporate balance sheets. The contrast between acquisition timing and current values serves as a reminder of market cycles.
Market participants will watch for confirmation of any actual sales or further on-chain activity from the associated wallets. Until then, the transfer adds to ongoing discussions about institutional behavior in cryptocurrency markets.
